Accreditation and Commendations
ACSI/WASC Accreditation
Accreditation is a status sought by schools in order to validate their quality of services. Achieving accreditation is an ongoing process that verifies that a school is striving for excellence, and meeting and exceeding its stated goals and objectives in relation to accepted standards of performance, integrity, and quality.
In 2010, Alta Loma Christian School became fully accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for its elementary and middle-school programs. Some of the commendations made by the ACSI/WASC accreditation committee toward the school included:
- Recognition of the “administration, faculty, staff, and parents for maintaining a positive school environment characterized by unity, mutual support, and strong examples of daily Christian living, which fosters student learning and character development”;
- Commendation of the “administration, faculty, and staff for providing continual communication with families regarding the academic and behavioral progress of students, which enhances student learning and emotional/social growth”; and
- Recognition of “administration, faculty, and staff for a clear Christian testimony and a desire to reach students for Christ, which impacts students’ spiritual growth.”
Accelerated Reader, a program developed by Renaissance Learning, Inc., is a reading program that Alta Loma Christian School implements at all grade levels. Accelerated Reader assesses students’ reading levels, allows students to read books that are appropriate to their reading level, take quizzes on their books online, and track their own performance in reading comprehension.
In 2010, ALCS middle school grades, as well as a first grade class, received national recognition by being recognized by Renaissance Learning, Inc. as Reading Model Classrooms. In order to receive this certification, educators and students must work together to meet Renaissance-recommended standards and demonstrate that students “are maintaining high-quality [reading] practices for a minimum of 12 weeks.” We are blessed to have a group of hard-working students and educators alike who are committed to personal excellence and bringing glory to God through their efforts. Take a look at our certificate!
