Who We Are

History

On March 17, 1980, “Little People Preschool” opened its doors to the surrounding community of Alta Loma. The prayers and vision of the people of the Brethren in Christ Church in Alta Loma became a reality.  The church envisioned a Christian Preschool with a purpose for ministry, one of reaching out and meeting the needs academically and spiritually of a young growing community.  The new congregation purchased land on 19th Street and built a multipurpose building designed for church worship services and a Christian preschool program.  In March the building was completed, the church moved in, and “Little People Preschool” was born.  Thirty-eight children were a living example of Matthew 19:14 when Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”   Thus, the school motto “Let the Little People Come!” The children continued to come and over the course of many years the Lord continued to very graciously and abundantly bless the school.

By June 1980, a summer program was added and by September, a kindergarten class.  As a result the school became “Little People Preschool and Kindergarten.”  The school and community continued to grow as well as the need for an after school care program. In 1982, that need was met and an After School Care Program was incorporated. It serviced both students in the private school as well as students of a neighboring public school in the Alta Loma School District.  In 1985, 1st and 2nd grade were added and the school became “Little People & Co.”  By 1989, “Little People & Co.” included 8 preschool classes and elementary grades K-3.  A fourth grade class was later added in1990, following with 5th and 6th grade in 1992.

Once 6th grade was added in 1992, the Elementary portion, K-6th grade was renamed and introduced to the community as “Alta Loma Christian School.”  The preschool portion of the school remained “Little People & Co.”  The elementary school adopted the verse Isaiah 40:31 and referred to themselves as the Alta Loma Christian School Eagles.  The verse reads, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not grow weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”  The school continued to flourish and growing needs of the community changed.  Thus, in the fall of 1999, the preschool became a pre-kindergarten only program and a middle school beginning with 7th grade evolved.  At this time, the entire school was once again joined together as one, under the name of “Alta Loma Christian School.”  By fall 2000, 8th grade was added, completing the new Middle School Program.

Over the years, the school added a computer lab, library, additional playground equipment, and special programs such as Spanish, Music, Physical Education, Accelerated Reader, Standardized Testing, Parent/Teacher Fellowship, After School Sports, and Enrichment Clubs.  Along with the addition of special programs, resources, and equipment, the Lord provided the growing school with six additional buildings.  In 2006, continued school growth led to a need for more classrooms.  Alta Loma Christian School broke ground on a new multi-purpose building, the first phase of which added two very large classrooms for Middle School and one for the newly innovative computer lab.

Alta Loma Christian School continues to be a ministry of Solid Ground Brethren in Christ Church in Alta Loma, one of reaching out and meeting the needs of the community.  The mission is to help each child grow spiritually and academically, reaching their full potential so they will be fully equipped to accomplish the plan God has for their lives.  It is the prayer of the church, school, and parents that Alta Loma Christian School continues to bring glory to God and provide excellence in Christian Education to the surrounding communities.

Beliefs

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three co-equal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; II Corinthians 13:14

We believe that God the Son became human in the person of Jesus Christ, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is fully God and fully man. Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:14; Colossians 1:15, 19

We believe that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life and offered himself as the only perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people. All who believe in Him are declared righteous on the basis of His death. Romans 3:24-26; 5:6-10; II Corinthians 5:14-15, 21; I Peter 3:18

We believe Jesus Christ rose physically from the dead and ascended into heaven to demonstrate His power over sin and death. John 20:25-27; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:4 We believe that Jesus Christ will return again to earth to establish His kingdom and reign forever in righteousness and peace. Isaiah 9:6-7; Matthew 24:30; Acts 1:11; Revelation 21:1-8

We believe that the Bible, consisting of all sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the written Word of God, our final authority on all matters to which it speaks, without error in the original manuscripts. Psalm 19:7-11; II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21

We believe that human beings were created in the image of God to be like Him in character and to be in relationship with Him. Human beings are born with a sinful nature and, apart from Jesus Christ, are eternally separated from God. As a result, each one has sinned by defying God and has fallen short of God’s perfect standard. Genesis 1:26-27; 2:15-17; 3:6; Romans 5:12-19; Ephesians 2:1-3

We believe that salvation from our sinful condition is a free gift of God. It is not something we earn or deserve because of good works. It must be received personally by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone. John 1:12; 3:16; 10:27-30; Romans 3:28; 8:31-38; Ephesians 2:8-9

We believe that the Holy Spirit lives in every believer from the moment of salvation. He provides all Christians with power for living and is in the on-going process of transforming believers into the likeness of Jesus Christ. John 14:16-17; Romans 6:1-14; 8:9-17; Galatians 5:16-26; Ephesians 2:10; Philippians 1:6 We believe that human beings were created to exist forever. They will either exist eternally separated from God in hell or eternally united with Him in heaven. John 5:28-29; I Corinthians 15:50-58; I Thessalonians 4:15-18; Revelation 20:12-15

We believe in the reality and personality of Satan, who attempts to defeat Christians through deception. Believers overcome Satan’s schemes by applying biblical truth in the power of the Holy Spirit. Job 1:6-12; John 8:44; Ephesians 6:10-18; I Peter 5:8-9

We believe the Church consists of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the head of the Church. Believers need to maintain a regular commitment to attend a local church fellowship. Believers are to grow in spiritual maturity, love each other as Christ loved us and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ through words and compassionate actions.

Matthew 16:16-18; 22:37-38; 28:19-20; John 13:34-35; Acts 1:8; II Corinthians 5:18-20; Ephesians 4:11-16; Colossians 1:18; Hebrews 10:25

Mission Statement

The mission of Alta Loma Christian School is to partner with families to raise children who will impact the world for the Lord Jesus Christ. It is summarized in the words "Building Up and Reaching Out."

Vision Statement

Our vision is that each child would grow spiritually, academically, and personally, being used by God to accomplish the plans He has for their lives.

  Philosophy Statement

The educational philosophy of Alta Loma Christian School is based on a God-centered view that all truth is God’s truth, and that the Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God.  Grounded in Christian love, the goal of ALCS is to work cooperatively with parents to equip them to fulfill their responsibilities as their child’s primary teacher (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).  We view the school as an extension of the home, and strive to provide a high quality academic education based on biblical values and principles in an environment that prepares children to excel spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically.

Each child is created in the image of God, separated from God by his or her sin nature.  We affirm a biblical worldview, and each student is encouraged to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Building up and reaching out is our mission, and our goal is to disciple students in their Christian walk so that they are fully equipped to be used by God to accomplish the plans He has for their lives. Discipline is part of the discipleship process, and we believe external behavior modification is the evidence of an internal change that impacts our personal relationship with God and each other, a communion that brings God glory for eternity and is based on the redeeming and restorative grace of Jesus.  Right action is a demonstration of faith in a loving God.  (Habakkuk 2:4)

Academically, we provide content and skills in a sequence that is developmentally appropriate to enable students to become independent, life-long learners.  We strive to move students from external motivation to internal motivation, instilling in them a desire to succeed for God’s glory.  Every teacher is expected to meet the academic, social, and spiritual needs of students, modeling Christian character and a godly lifestyle as they teach their students to think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively.

ALCS is an extension of the ministry of Solid Ground Church, and seeks to serve our community by reaching out to Christian families as well as non-Christian families.

  Core Values

1. Spiritual

We value a cooperative relationship with parents, who are their child’s primary teacher. We rely on the Bible as authoritative in all areas.  All truth is God’s truth.  Of great importance is each child’s personal relationship with Christ. This biblical foundation includes:

  • Loving God and worshipping Him with our words, actions, and heart (Mark 12:30, Romans 12:1, Hebrews 11:6).
  • Recognizing the Bible is the inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16).
  • Confessing a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord (Romans 10:9).
  • Being active participants in achieving the Great Commission of “making disciples” (Matthew 28:19-20).
  • Serving others so as to attain the full measure of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-13).
  • Developing and articulating a Christian worldview (2 Peter 1:3).

2. Academic

We value strong academics, and provide content and skills in a sequence that is developmentally appropriate to enable students to become independent, life-long learners.  Students will acquire the knowledge and skills needed for meaningful participation in society as an adult, enabling them:

  • To be an informed decision maker.
  • To realize their academic potential.
  • To be effective in written and oral communication.
  • To have the knowledge and skills to be a life-long learner.
  • To be critical thinkers and problem solvers.
  • To pursue areas of personal interest and to develop their God-given talents and creative skills (2 Timothy 2:15).
  • To have an understanding of and confidence in the reality of God’s call on their life (Ephesians 2:10).

3. Social/Emotional

We value the development of students’ social skills and emotional resilience, which are required for effective interaction in today’s society.  We teach students:

  • To accept him/herself as a unique product of God’s gracious nature, omniscience and power (Psalm 139:13-16).
  • To respect and love every other person (Romans 13:8; Philippians 2:3).
  • To be effective contributing members of society and to show godly relational behavior toward others (1 John 1:7).
  • To exercise God-pleasing moral behavior in all walks of life (Hebrews 13:4).
  • To use time wisely and maintain a godly attitude toward work (Matthew 12:26; Eph 5:15-16).

4. Physical

We value activities and habits that will promote a healthy lifestyle. We teach our students:

  • To maintain physical fitness, good eating habits and to avoid unhealthy activities.
  • To participate in competitive sports and/or activities.
  • To express cooperation and contribute to teamwork in sports and activities.
  • To participate in recreational activities to enhance life-long physical and mental health.
